About the Artist

Martha Hinson is a native Tennessean of boundless enthusiasm and imagination. Although she has had no formal art training, Martha has developed her skills on her own. "Mostly by trial and error, and that's a method you don't forget," as she so aptly puts it, thus making her style and techniques truly unique.

Martha first came to the attention of craft fair devotees with her unusual painted rocks, clever clay toadstools, and driftwood designs. She then turned her talents to oils, many of which hang in the offices of Northern Telecom in Nashville and DuPont in Old Hickory, Tennessee. Several of her works were selected to be sent to Japan as representative Tennesee art. In 1987, Martha was commissioned to produce a series of historical portrayals of the Nashville area.

Martha has added the ancient arts of etching and engraving to her repertory of talents. She has conducted an etching and engraving workshop at Ouchita University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and for the past ten years, has devoted full time to perfecting the techniques of etching.

The etchings are so successful that Martha has art agents selling them nationwide. She ships the etchings to galleries throughout the United States and to several foreign countries.

Martha approaches her art as she does every other aspect of her life - with a joy and zest which is transmitted to everyone around her.
